If you own one of the latest versions of Chromebook, you might not need to use Office apps online as most of the newer versions of Office allow you to get all the Office apps directly from the Play Store. Moreover, the college or school students who have been offered a free Office subscription from their institutions might need to collect the Microsoft Office account login details from their respective administration.

Installing Office apps on a Chrome OS

Before initiating this process, please be sure that your device has the “Play Store” in it. If your Chromebook does have the Play Store, here is how to get going with installing Office on it:

Power on your Chromebook and navigate to its lower-left corner

Here, you need to access the Launcher and look for Play Store

If it is available, click on it to launch the Play Store

Now, click on the “Install” option present on the page

Wait for the installation to complete and run the installed app

The process to access Office apps online

If you find out that your Chrome device does not have a Play Store on it, then you are suggested to use the preferred Office apps online. These online applications come with full functionality as the Office setup software that you download on your device. All you need to do is navigate to the Chrome Web Store and get the extension to use Office online.

As soon as you open this extension, it gives you the ability to create Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and more directly from your Chrome web browser. Else, go to office.com/setup, sign in to your account, and then add Office apps to your device for easy access. In addition to that, if you need Office only to create documents, then you can use its alternative as well. To serve this purpose, you can use Google Docs instead of Word which has similar features in it. Also, you can use it without having to purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription.
